Visa Requirements
Uganda Visa Requirements for Training
Overview
Britannia Elite welcomes foreign learners to attend approved, award-bearing training programmes in Uganda. This page sets out the requirements, documentation and procedures that international participants must follow before travelling. All organisations sponsoring foreign learners must ensure compliance with Ugandan immigration regulations.
Apply for and clear your visa before booking
We strongly recommend that learners apply for, and receive a granted, in-date visa before paying for any course. Your visa must cover the full duration of your chosen course, including travel days. Britannia Elite will carry out a due-diligence check that the visa you hold runs for the duration of your course, but we are not responsible for any overstay. Apply here: Uganda Electronic Visa & Permit Application System.
Which Visa You Need
Uganda operates an online e-visa system. You must apply and obtain a granted visa before you travel — there is no visa on arrival. Once granted, an approval letter is issued, which you must print and present at the point of entry for biometric processing.
Our courses are award-bearing and constitute study. As all our courses run for a maximum of eight weeks — within the 90-day limit of a short-stay visa — the appropriate route for most learners is the:
Single-entry visa, “Studies” purpose — applied for online by selecting Visa → Ordinary → Single entry, and choosing Studies as the purpose of travel.
- Granted for up to three months (90 days), which covers all Britannia Elite courses.
- Single entry.
- Visa fee: USD 50 (non-refundable).
- Approval authorisation is valid for 90 days from the date of approval, so apply close to — but in good time before — your travel date.
A separate Student Pass (granted for 3, 6 or 12 months, fee USD 100) exists for learners enrolled on longer programmes. It generally requires a student ID card and an existing immigration status, so it is not normally needed for our short courses. If your circumstances require it, we will advise.
Visa categories and durations are determined by Ugandan immigration. Learners are responsible for confirming the correct category before travel; Britannia Elite can advise on the route that applies to your chosen course.
Documents You Will Need
For the single-entry “Studies” visa, you will need to upload:
- Passport copy (bio-data page), valid for at least six months beyond your date of arrival, with at least one blank page.
- Recent passport-size photograph.
- Letter of invitation from the academy (provided by Britannia Elite).
- Admission letter from the academy (provided by Britannia Elite).
- Confirmation of the host’s status in Uganda (provided by Britannia Elite).
- A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (mandatory — see Health Requirements below).
All documents must be in English. Additional information may be requested by immigration during processing.
What Britannia Elite Provides
Once a booking is confirmed, Britannia Elite will issue the documentation immigration requires for the study route:
- A letter of invitation from the academy.
- An admission letter confirming the learner’s place, course title, dates and training location.
- Confirmation of the academy’s host status in Uganda.
Where required, and with the organisation’s consent, Britannia Elite can also forward learner details to the relevant consulate or embassy to confirm training attendance. Britannia Elite does not submit visa applications on behalf of learners.
How to Apply
- Log in to the Immigration Portal and start a new application.
- Accept the terms and conditions in the disclaimer.
- Select the visa type, category and sub-category (Visa → Ordinary → Single entry, purpose: Studies).
- Complete the application form.
- Upload the required documents — a six-digit application ID is generated as your reference number.
- Make any required payment.
- On approval, an approval letter is generated and emailed to you (with any top-up payment completed first where required).
- Print your approval letter and report to the immigration office or border for biometric capture, carrying all uploaded documents, payment receipts, the approval letter and your passport.
Apply in good time — typically at least 10 working days before travel.
Health Requirements
Britannia Elite is a training provider, not a medical authority. The information below is guidance only. Learners must obtain current advice from their GP or a travel-health clinic, and check official sources, well before travelling.
Yellow Fever (mandatory)
A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry to Uganda and must be uploaded with your visa application. Yellow fever is a live vaccine; under International Health Regulations the certificate is valid for the life of the person vaccinated. The vaccine is not suitable for everyone — for example, those who are immunocompromised. Anyone who cannot receive it should obtain a medical exemption certificate from a registered yellow fever vaccination centre before travelling.
Pregnancy and Planning Pregnancy — Zika Virus
Zika virus is present in Uganda. It is spread mainly by daytime-biting mosquitoes and can also be passed through sexual contact. Zika is a particular risk in pregnancy because infection can cause serious birth defects.
- Women who are pregnant are advised to consider postponing non-essential travel to Uganda.
- Women who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy — including couples in assisted-fertility programmes — should seek medical advice before booking and travelling.
- Current UK guidance recommends avoiding conception for a period after travel (typically at least 8 weeks, and longer where a male partner has been exposed). Confirm the current advice with your GP or travel clinic.
For up-to-date country health advice, see the official guidance for Uganda at TravelHealthPro and consult your GP or travel-health clinic. General measures — mosquito-bite avoidance, malaria precautions and routine vaccinations — should also be discussed with your clinician.
Length of Stay and Extensions
The single-entry visa is granted for up to 90 days, which covers all Britannia Elite courses. Learners must ensure:
- Their visa covers the entire training period, including travel days.
- Any required extension is arranged before the visa expires.
- All immigration requirements are met prior to travel.
The initial period granted at entry may be extended for a further 60 days, in two intervals, online or at the Headquarters and Regional Immigration offices. The learner or sponsoring organisation must arrange any extension directly with Ugandan immigration; Britannia Elite does not process extensions on a learner’s behalf but can provide updated course documentation if required.
Arrival Procedures for Foreign Learners
Foreign learners should arrive in Uganda with sufficient time to:
- Clear immigration.
- Travel to the training location.
- Complete registration and booking-in.
- Receive their initial briefing.
Joining instructions will specify recommended arrival windows. If your arrival is delayed for any reason, you must telephone ahead as early as possible so that arrangements can be adjusted.
Transport Arrangements
Transport is not automatically included. However:
- Airport transfers can be arranged if agreed during the quotation process.
- All transport provisions will be itemised clearly.
- Organisations may coordinate their own transport for learners.
What Learners Should Bring
- Valid passport and visa documentation, including the printed approval letter.
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate (and any other required health documentation).
- Personal clothing suitable for classroom and practical sessions.
- Toiletries and personal items.
- Any prescribed medication.
- Sufficient personal funds for incidental expenses.
Accommodation, meals and training materials are provided where included in the programme.
Removal from a Course
If a learner is removed from their chosen course for a valid reason, Britannia Elite:
- Will not pay administration fees to change flight details.
- Is not liable to accommodate the learner while they await their flight.
- Will, where problems arise, contact the learner’s embassy — and we strongly recommend the learner does the same.
Learner Responsibility and Overstay
Learners remain responsible for holding a valid, in-date visa for the full duration of their course. Britannia Elite will carry out a due-diligence check that the visa runs for the duration of the course, but is not responsible for any overstay or for the consequences of an invalid or expired visa.
